The city might get three scheme roads in the near future as the Coimbatore Corporation is working on the proposals. According to sources, the civic body has readied two proposals and was working on the third so that it could send the same to the Government for funds.
The proposals that were ready have to do with the road proposed along the bund of the Singanallur Tank and the road between the Sanganoor Canal and Kannabiran Mill Road, near Meena Estate. The proposal that the Corporation was preparing was for widening the Nallampalayam Road that connected Mettupalayam Road and Sathyamangalam Road.
The sources said that to build the 1.14 km road proposed along the Singanallur Tank bund, the Corporation had to acquire more than 40,000 sq.ft. land that belonged to seven people. Once built, the road will take the burden off the Singanallur junction as it will provide a shortcut to reach the Vellalore Road near the railway crossing. The cost of the project is estimated at Rs. 9.34 crore.
The second road will run north-south for 700 m, be 40 feet wide and provide one more link between Sowripalayam Road and Kannabiran Mills Road. The Corporation will have to acquire 1.18 lakh sq.ft. to establish the road and the cost estimated is around Rs. 11.52 crore, which includes the cost of land acquisition. As for widening the 5.2 km-long Nallampalayam Road, the Corporation had roughly estimated that it would have to acquire 1.84 lakh sq.ft. and need around Rs. 20 crore for the proposal. The sources, however, said that the Corporation was in the process of finalising the proposal.
